The Mythology of
BELUN

BELUN (also known as Bialbog, Belobog, Belovit, Bialobog, Belobuh) is one of the archaic Slavic deities. He is the god of light, the bearer of goodness, happiness, and luck, as well as fertility and abundance.

Belobog is the absolute counterbalance to darkness, evil, misfortune, and all negative phenomena and emotions. He was likely initially an extremely important deity, associated with ancient Slavic cosmology, as one of the world’s demiurges and the primordial opponent of the god of evil – Chernobog.

Over time and with the development of pagan beliefs, he gradually lost his significance, although respect for him was maintained. In later Slavic cults, Belobog is one of the companions of the sun god Dazhbog.

Belobog is the personification of sunlight, warmth, and life as a whole. The peasants believed that Belobog secretly watched over their crops and, if honored, even helped them with agricultural work, especially during harvest.
